Join us on Saturday 13th of June at 09:00 to 13:30 The Nuclear Summit at Bertha House, Cape Town (Hosted by the Congolese Civil Society of South Africa).
The legacy of Uranium Mines (extraction), nuclear weapons and nuclear energy continue to shape the lives of millions across the globe. From uranium mining of Shinkolobwe in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the testing of the atomic bomb in New Mexico (USA), nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands and elsewhere, and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, which also affected Korean people who were in Japan as forced labor-ers, and whose suffering has gone largely unrecognized.
These communities have endured environmental destruction, long-term health crises, displacement, and intergenerational trauma.
While nuclear technologies continue to evolve, including advanced weapons systems.
