SAFCEI and African faith leaders are sending an open letter to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (Gates Foundation) and other funders of the so-called Green Revolution and AGRA in Africa.
Since our previous letter in 2021 when we asked the Gates Foundation to stop funding Industrial agricultural initiatives in Africa, the foundation has failed to offer a meaningful response.
Our concerns include the continued promotion of practices that research has shown to have harmed smallholder farmers and their communities, reduced soil fertility, and damaged ecosystems. Despite the Gates Foundation’s stated commitments to end food insecurity, their interventions have often led to adverse effects.
Please read the Open Letter and sign on here. Please share it widely.
