Today, the Southern African Faith Communities’ Environment Institute (SAFCEI) is attending the Presidential inauguration at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. SAFCEI's Executive Director Francesca de Gasparis and members of the Board are attending the event.
“As a watchdog that is highly critical of government, we are honoured to have been invited to this inauguration. And in the spirit of this new GNU, we believe that critical friends are important to hold the government accountable, to ensure good governance and ensure a brighter future for all South Africans,” says de Gasparis.
“We hope that the GNU will bring better energy and climate governance. We want to see accessible and affordable electricity, with the lights on 24/7, and available to all South Africans. This is one of our biggest hopes. We also hope that, through this GNU, that we really start taking climate change seriously, as a country, and play the leadership role that we can in Africa with the abundance of sun, wind and just natural human talent, all working together to protect our beautiful land,” she adds.
SAFCEI (Southern African Faith Communities’ Environment Institute) is a multi-faith organisation committed to supporting faith leaders and their communities in Southern Africa to increase awareness, understanding and action on eco-justice, sustainable living and climate change.
