Kumi Naidoo
Our fundraiser The Power of Now: Way Beyond Nuclear was a great success, with a wonderful line-up of speakers and Nik Rabinowitz holding it all together with his quick wit and mischievous humour.
Our Green Bishop opened the event by introducing SAFCEI and saying a word of blessing. Kumi Naidoo spoke eloquently as to why nuclear is not the solution to our energy needs: “it delivers too little, too late”. And this is not even addressing the risk factor it presents to our economy, our people and the environment.
Liz McDaid gave an update of the court case – you can read her speech here – and Kevin James spoke to the possibilities and opportunities that lie in the renewable energy sector.
The donated Vineyard Hotel venue was a magnificent setting, that with #DesignStarEvents genius Rachel Smith’s magical touch became a space in which citizens and activists came together to forge a way forward to a sustainable energy future.
SAFCEI thanks everyone who attended the event as well as those that supported with gifted seats or donations. This is the first of a number of Earth Keeper Briefings that we plan to host and we hope to build on this groundswell of support and get many more South Africans involved in this nuclear resistance.
