Today, the Open Wing Alliance (OWA) members in Africa are launching a regional campaign against Pick n Pay.
A recent investigation revealed that, Pick n Pay is supporting animal cruelty by sourcing their eggs from farms that practice cruel battery cage farming. That is a bad way of keeping hens and it's causing suffering to millions of layers who can’t do anything that is natural or important to them. Often, their body parts are caught in the cages, which results in fractured or broken bones, deformities, and severe feather loss. Some hens, exhausted or unable to move, are trampled to death by their cage mates. Again, it's a bad habit to sell products that involve cruelty to their customers.
Other leading food businesses in Africa have committed to stopping animal cruelty by making a cage-free commitment. Leading Retailer Majid Al Futtaim who operate Carrefour stores in the continent committed to going cage-free earlier in 2022, along with 75 other companies such as Nando’s, City Lodge Hotel Group and Famous Brands who have all joined the initiative to eradicate cruel cages from their supply chains. We need Pick n Pay to stop their cruel practices through signing and announcing a cage-free commitment across all of their operations in Africa.
To make this possible, please sign the petition to add on your voice to ask PnP to stop animal cruelty and go cage-free. Take action now!
