The Southern African Faith Communities’ Environment Institute (SAFCEI) is a multi-faith environmental justice organisation. We support leaders and their faith communities across Southern Africa to raise awareness, build skills and take decisive action on eco-justice, sustainable living and climate justice.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Project Coordinator who is passionate about the environment to join our dedicated team, driving impactful environmental and climate initiatives nationally.

The role includes policy monitoring and advocacy, to monitor South Africa’s Just Energy Transition (JET), and Green Energy and Green and Circular Economy (GE&CE), producing accessible policy outputs that communities, particularly women and youth, can use for their advocacy.

Key Responsibilities include inter alia:

  • Track projects’ progress and milestones.
  • Track JETP, JET-IP, and climate policy developments.
  • Analyse opportunities and risks for communities, with attention to gender and youth justice.
  • Coordinate engagement with the faith institution hosting the hub, and oversee solar installation with technical partners.
  • Document lessons from the pilot, and link community experiences to national JET/GE&CE policy.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Environmental Policy, Political Science, Development Studies, or related field.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in climate/energy policy, advocacy, or community engagement.
  • Proven record in policy research, analysis, and submissions.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex policy into accessible knowledge.
  • Strong facilitation and popular education skills.
  • Experience working with faith-based organisations and grassroots CBOs.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and networking skills.
