SAFCEI is an environmental NGO based in Cape Town working in Southern Africa with people of all faiths, and none, who want to see ethical policy making and want to take local action for eco and climate justice.

JOB DESCRIPTION Position titleCampaigns Coordinator
(Fixed-term contract post – 12 months renewable contingent on funding)Start date As soon as possible
PURPOSE The Campaigns Coordinator will work on campaigns run by SAFCEI as well as global campaigns that SAFCEI joins, and support and encourage local community-based campaigns and campaign actions.
S/he will support the development and ensure implementation of existing and future campaigns; the designing of campaign strategies to meet the organisational objectives and programme plans, in conjunction with the programme and communications teams, and planning and running of the campaigns. This includes facilitating activities in-person and online, including the administration and logistics for campaigns, documentation in the form of written notes and photos, data collection and reporting.
The post will report to the Programme Manager.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
JOB CONTENT Campaign development, including materials.Plan campaign strategies together with the SAFCEI team that are aligned with faith leader voices and regional objectives.
Develop campaign plans that are consistent with the campaign strategy and objectives, make use of SAFCEI’s strengths and available resources, and make sure that these are clear and accessible to others in the organisation.
Develop a budget for the campaigns.Campaign plans are defined with clear deliverables, realistic timelines, and achievable objectives, which reflect SAFCEI’s strategic plans. They are approved internally, and made available and accessible to internal and external parties where necessary. Campaign plans are implemented and accelerated as per the strategies agreed.
The Programme team is engaged to support the Campaigns Coordinator in planning and delivery.
Progress against planned campaigns, budget and agreed KPIs is reported monthly.
Stay up-to-date with campaign-related news, by:
reading widely on eco and climate justice issues, and specific campaign issues, such as agroecology, nuclear energy and cage-free.
attending conferences and meetings.
Up-to-date and working knowledge of campaign activities and newsworthy developments is shared.
Campaigns are adjusted to fit developing external events. Participate and actively engage in online fora on SAFCEI’s behalf.Regular and consistent engagement and posting is undertaken on behalf of SAFCEI in appropriate spaces, including WhatsApp groups, online meetings, and Google groups.Research campaign methodologies and best practice.SAFCEI campaigns are to be effective and successful.Conduct training and education programmes with faith communities regarding campaigns and campaigning.Faith leaders who are trained by SAFCEI know how to campaign. Understand, compile and disseminate accurate and accessible campaign information to faith leaders.Faith leaders in the SAFCEI network have the necessary resources to campaign effectively.Assist in designing campaign resources for faith communities on climate change.‘How to’ campaign resources on specific issues are created and available for faith leaders.Understand SAFCEI’s history, campaigns, and theory of change. This information will enhance the ability to represent the organisation. SAFCEI’s campaign aims, past and present, are actively represented. Get input and advice from SAFCEI-affiliated partners and cohorts to run campaigns. SAFCEI works effectively with civil society on key campaigns.Monitor the campaign budget and flag any issues of concern.The campaign budget and expenditure are tracked and reported on.Representing SAFCEIRaise the profile of the campaigns, and look for campaigning opportunities with partners and potential allies at regular partner meetings, conferences and events, and through supporting their work.Fora are attended on campaigns and SAFCEI’s campaign interests are represented to a wide audience of faith sector and civil society.

Campaigns run by other organisations are noted and the potential for involvement is assessed.Source, record and share faith leader voices and views on campaign issues on a weekly basis. Campaigns are promoted through direct involvement by faith leaders and others.Contribute to the design of information resources for faith leaders and communities.Accurate and up-to-date information is shared.ResourcingAnswer partner requests for information and collaboration in training, presentations and other events.Up-to-date correspondence is kept on campaign opportunities and SAFCEI partnerships.Work with external consultants and research groups to develop campaign materials.
