After running a week-long public campaign, Hotel Verde, with operations in Cape Town and Zanzibar, has committed to sourcing 100% cage-free eggs throughout their operations by 2025. They have also committed to annually publicly report on their progress in this regard. This follows a week-long public campaign.
SAFCEI’s Campaign Lead, Mandla Gqamlana says, "Currently, 86% of hens in South Africa live in cages. We would like to thank Hotel Verde for taking us a step closer to eradicating battery cage farms for egg-laying hens in Southern Africa."
"We are encouraged by the fact that Hotel Verde has already started to source eggs from free-range producers.", says Gqamlana.
