19th September 2015. Saturday. Chegutu. ZIMBABWE: The We Have Faith - Act Now for Climate Justice campaign has now clocked 1,973km travelling from Maputo in Mozambique and currently at a town, Chegutu, in Zimbabwe.
The awareness cycling expedition started cycling on 1st September after planting trees at two primary schools in Maputo. The previous day it was launched at the heart of the city.
Cyclists from Mozambique, including three females, travelled all the way to the South African Komatipoort Border Control, covering 100km before handing over to the South Africans. Stops were registered in Nkomazi, Mbombane, Machadodorp, Witbank, Tshwane, Rustenberg, and Zeerust, among other places.
Six core cyclists, supported by various groups of core cyclists, joined the South African team covering 779km to the Botswana Tlakweng Border Control. Botswana made stops in Dibete, Mahalapye, Palapye, Selibi-Phikwe to the Plumtree Border Control where they handed over to Zimbabwe, covering 655km.
Zimbabwe cycling team of six, is now at Chegutu,having traveled only 439 km, and covering the remaining 477 km from Chegutu through Harare to be finalised when they handover to Zambia on 30th September.
The tour has so far experienced one car accident in Palapye Botswana with minor injuries, four bicycle accidents with just bruises, planted more than 550 trees and collected a symbolic 5000 plus petitions.
The campaign aims to mobilise the African voice to demand for a fair and legally binding deal at COP21 in Paris this December.
